October 19: SF Rally to Defend Women's Rights

Stop the attacks on women's rights!
Fri. Oct. 19, 5:30 pm
Powell and Market Sts., SF
Last year, we witnessed the worst legislative attacks on reproductive rights in decades. Women still make 22 cents less for every dollar a man makes. Women face rampant violence and high levels of poverty.
Yet in the last presidential debate, neither candidate mentioned women's rights. In the vice presidential debate, the issue of women's rights was framed by the candidates' personal religious beliefs. Neither of them took a stand in support of full equality for women, for access to comprehensive healthcare--including full reproductive rights.
Women's rights are not up for debate! They are not a bargaining chip for any politician. We must build a movement in the streets that can hold the politicians accountable and make our rights a reality.
WORD is organizing a nationwide Week of Action to Defend Women's Rights October 16-22. WORD organizers and supporters will be protesting outside the debates in Hempstead, NY and Boca Raton, FL. Women and allies in cities across the United States will take to the streets to defend women's rights in locally-coordinated actions nationwide.
Here in San Francisco, WORD is organizing a rally at Powell & Market on Friday, October 19 at 5:30pm. Join us as we demand full abortion rights, an end to budget cuts, access to healthcare, childcare and maternity leave, equal pay, and more.
Volunteers are needed! On Sat. Oct. 13, 11am, join us for a short volunteer meeting followed by postering, leafletting and phonebanking. Meet at 2969 Mission St. at 26th St., SF.
Call 415-375-9502 or email [email protected] to volunteer to build the week of action.
