Tell President Obama: Hands Off the Morning-After Pill!

Part of May 13-17 Week of Action

WORD, National Women's Liberation and others are joining together for a week of action May 13-17 in cities across the United States to demand an end to the Obama administration's interference with women's access to safe, legal and affordable emergency contraception without ID and age restrictions. See below for details! The Obama administration is attempting to placate the right wing at the expense of women's basic reproductive rights.

Women across the United States are demanding an end to the political games that are keeping safe, effective contraception out of reach. Research has consistently shown that there is no medical reason to restrict access to the Morning-After Pill, yet the Obama administration has continued George W. Bush's policy of using the FDA and Department of Health and Human Services to keep emergency contraception away from the girls and women who have a right to access it.

In an important legal battle, a federal judge ruled on April 5 that the Morning-After Pill should be made available over-the-counter and without age or point-of-sale restrictions. This lawsuit was initiated by plaintiffs from National Women's Liberation and others. The Obama administration, in an open attempt to restrict women's rights, is appealing the Court's decision. The FDA has announced that one brand of emergency contraception will be made available on the shelf without a prescription for women 15 and over, but it will be sold at a high cost and all women must show ID to purchase the pill. The generic brands are still locked behind the counter.

This week, as the court battle continues (see below for the most recent updates on this important legal case), women will take this struggle to the street, demanding access to the Morning-After Pill without restrictions and at an affordable price. No woman should have to show ID because she does not wish to become pregnant. Contraception is a right!

We demand affordable access for all, without restrictions!

Tell Obama: "Hands Off the Morning-After Pill!"

Hands off the morning after pill!

Send a letter to President Obama now using our simple online tool - it takes less than a minute! Demand access to emergency contraception over the counter and without restrictions.

The Obama administration has no right to interfere with women's right to control our own bodies. President Obama is using women's right to decide whether and when we have children as a political bargaining chip to win favor with the right wing. We say: "Hands off the Morning-After Pill!"

Access to emergency contraception is a RIGHT! Send your letter now.
