The right to control our bodies: priceless
|"Because my body belongs to me,
not men in Congress!"
The Aug. 26 National Day of Action to Defend Women’s Rights is now less than two weeks away. WORD organizers in Chicago, Los Angeles, NYC, San Francisco and elsewhere across the country are working tirelessly to build demonstrations, spread the word, and raise funds. We need your help to make this important day of action a success.
The right wing is sparing no expense to take away women’s rights. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, anti-choice Political Action Committees spent close to half a million dollars on the 2008 election campaign to take away our control over our bodies. And they're at it again, with more than $124,000 already spent in this election cycle as of June 4.
Countering this well-funded right-wing assault requires unity, militancy—and money. WORD is meeting the challenge head on with a call for mass demonstrations on Aug. 26 immediately preceding the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. Your financial support is urgently needed for us to succeed.
A $20 donation will let us print 2,000 flyers. A $60 donation will allow a low-income student to travel by bus to the Aug. 26 demonstrations in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago. A $120 donation will cover the monthly cost of a phone line used by our volunteers. Sound equipment, placards, banners, transportation and other expenses for Aug. 26 will cost thousands of dollars. Please take a moment to make a generous donation to this critical campaign.
